Open-topped cabriolet variant to return to the G-Class range in 2026 after 13 years.

Likely to be a special edition with limited production.
When Mercedes-Benz launched the original G-Class or Gelandewagen in 1979, one of the press pictures widely published was of the open-topped version of the vehicle flying through the air. That version was part of the range until 2013.

After that, open-topped G-Class models were only from conversion specialists like BRABUS. There was also a Mercedes-Maybach G 650 Landaulet with a V12 engine offered in 2017, but it was ultra exclusive with only 99 units made for sale.
Real-world testing underway
Soon the G-Class range will again have an open-topped or cabriolet version and prototypes are now completing final real-world tests, starting in Austria. From there, other prototypes will be driven in different countries in the toughest terrain to confirm the toughness of the vehicle and to find anything that breaks or fails and fix it before the model goes on sale.

Mercedes-Benz is referring to it as a ‘special edition’ so it may be produced in limited numbers and sold in selected markets.
In Malaysia, the G-Class is available as the Mercedes-AMG G63 priced from RM1.95 million (excluding insurance). There’s also the fully electric G580 which is priced from RM1.298 million but that as duty-exemption ends at the end of 2025, the price will be higher in 2026 when duties are added to the selling price.
