Since being established BYD has always focussed on developing new and more advanced technologies. Pioneering technologies like the Blade Battery and e-Platform 3.0 position its products as leaders in the market, drawing new customers to the brand.

The advanced technologies are the result of strong investment in R&D, which BYD Chairman Wang Chuanfu views as the core driver of the company’s growth and competitive advantage, essential for sustainable industrial advancement. He emphasizes significant, continuous investment in R&D and extensive vertical integration to ensure technological leadership.

BYD considers R&D expenditure so important that its investment in R&D has been more than net profit every year – even during the early years of the COVID-19 pandemic when business was severely impacted. It has spent over US$30.5 billion in R&D (US$7.5 billion in 2024 alone) and is the top-tier R&D spender among 5,200 A-share listed companies.
