Power Up brings electricity to your EV

Unlike combustion vehicles which can be refuelled at the thousands of petrol stations all over the place, electric vehicles still have the disadvantage of limited charging stations, requiring owners to travel some distance to get to them (in some cases). Most owners would, of course, keep an eye on their battery level and recharge before it gets too low.

But there can be times when the battery runs out of electricity unexpectedly and the vehicle is immobile. With a combustion vehicle, you can get a ride to a petrol station, borrow a container and bring back fuel but you can’t do that for an EV.  It’s something which is also of concern to those who consider buying an EV as they fear being stranded.

Unfortunately, technology has not become so advanced that the EV battery can be recharged from a powerbank like the one you use to recharge your phone. It might be possible one day in the future but certainly not anytime soon.

Now, there is a solution that can ‘bring the electricity’ to where your EV is, providing a recharge so that you can continue your journey. It’s a service that is a collaboration between Mercedes-Benz and Power-Up (P.UP) by Nazamax Malaysia. This on-demand mobile charging service delivers power directly to the customer’s location, using high-speed DC chargers for fast recharging.

The service is actually not new and has been offered in Penang since September 2024 as a pilot service. It is now being offered in the Klang Valley with 3 mobile charging vans, and then in Johor Bahru in the first quarter of 2026. There are also plans to offer the P.UP service in other parts of Peninsular Malaysia during the second half of 2026.

As part of the MB Platinum 5 plan, the P.UP service offers 5 mobile charging sessions per month (up to 80% state-of-charge), each including a car hand wash, vacuuming, and tyre shine, within a chosen subscription period of 1, 6, or 12 months. The plan also includes free service fees and parking up to RM5 per session.
