112 EV charging points now available along PLUS highways

In order to meet the government’s target of 10,000 charging points for EVs by the end of 2025, many companies have been doing their part in helping to grow the network over the past 2 years. This includes PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS) which has been establishing charging stations along its highways.

The EV charging points are strategically located at selected R&R areas (R&Rs), lay-bys, and within selected petrol station premises along the PLUS highways, including the Lebuhraya Pantai Timur 2 (LPT2) to the East Coast.

The company reports that, as of June 30 2025, a total of 112 EV charging points are now operational, surpassing PLUS’ initial target of 100 charging points by the end of 2025. According to PLUS Managing Director, Datuk Nik Airina Nik Jaffar, this initiative is aligned with the highway concessionaires’ Green Roadmap 2.0. This references the establishment 1,000 fast charging points by 2025 under the Low Carbon Mobility Development Plan (2021–2030). To further promote low-carbon transportation, the EV charging points along PLUS highways are also equipped with solar panel roofing and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).

High-speed technology
“All EV charging points installed across the PLUS and LPT2 network are Direct Current Fast Chargers, designed specifically to support long-distance travel with faster charging times. These chargers offer output power ranging from 47 kW to 200 kW, enabling vehicles to reach up to 80% charge within 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the vehicle’s specifications and existing battery level,” explained PLUS Chief Commercial Officer, Mohd Fauzi Puniran. He added that the charging points are equipped with universal CCS2 connectors, compatible with most major EV models in the market.

As the EV population grows and the longer ranges possible encourage owners to travel further, the average utilisation rate for EV chargers on PLUS highways this year has likewise shown healthy growth.

EV users can locate the charging points via the PLUS Mobile App, as well as apps provided by respective charging point operators such as JomCharge, Gentari Go, and the ChargEV App, which offer real-time availability, payment features, and session tracking.

Future developments
“PLUS is targeting the launch of the Malaysia’s first Highway EV Hub at Seremban R&R (Southbound), spearheaded by Terra ChargEV, a joint venture between PLUS’ subsidiary Terra PLUS Sdn Bhd and Green EV Charge. The hub is expected to be fully operational by the first quarter of 2027,” said Datuk Nik Airina.

In addition to energizing a total of 350 EV charging points by 2028, PLUS is embarking on a pilot project branded as ‘Charge and Chill’ at selected toll plazas by 2025. This aims to combine the EV charging infrastructure with Food & Beverage facilities to enhance the experience for EV users while they have their vehicles recharged.
