Quick look
- In just 3 years, BYD has become Malaysia’s No. 1 EV brand and is also among the top 10 bestselling brands this year.
- Over 25,000 fully electric BYD vehicles with zero emissions have made a positive impact on the environment.
- Exclusive year-end offers give extra savings for those who want to switch to electric motoring.
BYD was among the first brands to enter the market at the end of 2022 when the Malaysian government announced duty-exemption on fully electric vehicles as an incentive to accelerate the switch to electric mobility.
No. 1 in the world and in Malaysia
The brand, which is No. 1 in EV sales globally, saw positive response to its EVs and not surprisingly, it quickly became the No. 1 EV brand in Malaysia as well. Three years later, more than 25,000 BYD vehicles – all fully electric – have been delivered nationwide and the brand is already among the overall top 10 bestselling brands.
BYD Sime Motors, the official distributor of BYD vehicles in Malaysia (as well as Singapore), offers 7 EV models for different market segments from entry-level to premium, sedan to SUV and MPV. They are among the most popular in the EV segment today.

Helping the environment
The large volume of BYD EVs put on the roads has made a positive impact on the environment. Collectively, BYD owners help reduce over 62,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually. This is equivalent to planting nearly 2.5 million trees every year — enough to circle Malaysia’s coastline more than 6 times.

Commenting on the ascent of the BYD brand, Jeffrey Gan, Managing Director of Southeast Asia, Sime Motors, said: “In just 3 years, BYD has become a key pillar of Sime Motors’ automotive portfolio. We have a strong foundation to drive EV adoption through our robust sales and aftersales network, advanced facilities, and skilled EV talent. Our vehicles have transformed Malaysia’s roads, making electric mobility more accessible and practical for everyone. Thank you to all BYD owners in Malaysia for your trust and support. Exemplary ownership experience remains our top priority.”

BYD Sime Motors’ extensive infrastructure across Malaysia has been pivotal in supporting its growing customer base and ensuring a seamless ownership experience. Its nationwide network today has 39 sales and marketing outlets and 24 aftersales service centres, complemented by 12 authorised body and paint centres. A centralised parts warehouse with over 4,600 items ensures parts availability for industry-leading repair turnaround.
In addition, over 1,000 local employees are trained at BYD’s dedicated Training Centre to uphold top technical and service standards.

“To now have more than 25,000 Malaysians as part of the BYD family is incredibly rewarding, and it shows how quickly the EV movement is growing in the country. This is another milestone we’re truly proud of. Our commitment to a greener, smarter and safer driving experience has brought us here, and we’re deeply grateful for the trust Malaysians have placed in us. We’re excited to continue this journey together and to keep bringing the best products and technology to Malaysia,” said Eagle Zhao, Managing Director of BYD Malaysia.
More to come
Looking ahead, BYD and Sime Motors reaffirms its commitment to driving Malaysia’s EV future. The 2026 roadmap fpr the brand includes network expansion, advanced technology integration, and the establishment of BYD local assembly operations to create sustainable value and jobs.
