Volvo Car Malaysia strengthens aftersales service in Sarawak

The Volvo presence in Malaysia is a long one, going right back to the 1960s when the Swedish automaker set up a joint venture assembly plant with Federal Auto (its distributor) in Shah Alam, Selangor. It was the first vehicle assembly plant in Malaysia and was a response to the government’s call to localise vehicle production and transfer automotive technology.

The plant continues to operate up till today, now known as Volvo Car Manufacturing Malaysia. Vehicles from the plant, including EVs, are distributed throughout Malaysia as well as exported to neighbouring countries as it is Volvo’s only plant in Asia (outside of China).

Under Federal Auto, Volvo became a household name throughout the country (it was popular with government servants in its early years), and building upon this deep legacy, Volvo Car Malaysia has continued to grow the dealer network.

Aftersales centre in Kuching
Recently, the network gained another location with the official opening of a new 2S (Service & Spare Parts) outlet in Kuching, Sarawak. Operated by the Sebangga Group, the aftersales centre is located along Jalan Pending, providing continuity of care for existing Volvo owners in the area.

While the Jalan Pending site currently operates purely as a 2S facility, Sebangga Mitsinbo is preparing to upgrade the location into a full-fledged dealership. During this interim phase, prospective buyers in Sarawak can continue to place their orders for new Volvo vehicles through the company’s established branch in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

Chris Wailes, Managing Director of Volvo Car Malaysia and Thailand, noted that maintaining an accessible and reliable service network remains crucial to the brand’s customer commitment. Integrating Sebangga Mitsinbo in Kuching strengthens ownership support across East Malaysia while serving as a vital component of Volvo’s broader national operations.

“Our relationship with customers is very important to us. We are deeply committed to maintaining a robust, accessible network of service centres – and soon, complete dealerships across Malaysia. Bringing Sebangga Mitsinbo into Kuching ensures our Sarawakian owners get the uncompromising care they deserve, cementing this centre as a key pillar in our wider national network,” he said.
