Petron stations help in reducing carbon emissions

Quick look

  • Petron is installing solar energy systems at 100 of its stations, generating enough renewable energy to power roughly 953 homes annually.

  • This initiative can cut 2,517 tonnes of carbon dioxide each year, directly supporting Malaysia’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.

Preventing climate change requires reducing the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) going into the atmosphere as this gas has been causing increasing global warming. A global effort is ongoing to reduce carbon emissions with Malaysia setting the ultimate goal of carbon neutrality by 2050.

100 stations to have solar energy
Petron Malaysia is supporting this effort towards a low-carbon future through a strategic partnership with Progressture Renewables Sdn Bhd. Under this long-term partnership, 100 Petron service stations nationwide will be equipped with solar panels photovoltaic (PV) systems, reinforcing the petroleum company’s commitment to Malaysia’s net-zero ambitions.

When completed, the solar systems are projected to generate up to 3,321 MWh of renewable energy annually – enough to power approximately 953 Malaysian households every year. At the same time, up to 2,517 tonnes of carbon emissions will be cut annually, which is equivalent to removing 587 combustion engine cars from the road or planting 62,933 trees annually. Over the project’s full lifecycle, cumulative reductions of more than 62,925 tonnes of CO2 are projected.

Supporting Net-Zero 2050 goal
“This partnership reflects our commitment to integrating sustainability into every facet of our operations. By introducing solar power to our stations, we are making an immediate and measurable impact on emissions reduction, particularly Scope 2 emissions. This is part of Petron’s journey in reducing carbon emission and supporting Malaysia’s Net-Zero 2050 goal, in supplementing power to our operations in a cleaner and more resilient way,” said Mohd Nizam Mansor, General Manager of Petron Malaysia.
