Nissan Navara starts fourth generation in Australia

Quick look

  • Fourth generation since the Navara line started in 1986
  • Front design inspired by Australian trucks
  • Alliance platform shared with latest Mitsubishi Triton
  • To launch in Australia and Oceania market in first quarter of 2026

Building on decades of pick-up heritage, Nissan’s new Navara will bring enhanced reliability, capability, and technology, while progressing the Navara nameplate (introduced in 1986) into a new, more advanced era of design.

Inspired by Australian trucks
The exterior design draws inspiration from Nissan’s pick-up truck lineage, with the front end inspired by the modified trucks in Australia. This inspiration led to the bull bar-inspired V-strut shield, establishing a commanding presence at the front.

The 3-slot design atop the grille pays tribute to the D21 Navara (also known as Hardbody in the USA), while the C-shaped headlamps interlock seamlessly with the grille — a recurring theme in modern Nissan trucks and SUVs.

Additionally, the grille features a pattern composed of smaller V-strut motifs within the mesh. The designers have playfully integrated iconic shapes to create a grille that not only highlights the Navara’s performance and supports ample cooling but also reinforces its bold, confident stance.

2.4-litre turbodiesel engine
The new model will have a 2.4-litre turbodiesel engine producing a maximum output of 204 ps/470 Nm, paired with a wide-ratio 6-speed automatic transmission. The fuel consumption is claimed to be almost 13 kms/litre.

The drivetrain is engineered for heavy-duty tasks and diverse driving conditions, including city streets, highways, and off-road terrain. A newly adopted electric power steering system enhances manoeuvrability and enables superior handling performance.

An advanced 4×4 system automatically switches modes based on driving conditions. It shifts to 2×4 drive during highway driving and engages 4×4 drive when towing or handling heavy-duty tasks. An electronically-controlled differential lock provides additional traction in demanding off-road situations.

The advanced traction management system continuously monitors wheel slip, steering input, and terrain conditions to deliver power where it’s needed most. This ensures consistent progress whether crossing a muddy worksite or traversing more extreme terrain.

Wide range of ADAS
The driver of the new Navara is supported with a wide range of advanced driver-assistance systems. These include Intelligent Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning, an emergency lane-keeping system that assists steering to help avoid danger, and the Intelligent Speed Limiter, which automatically recognizes speed-limit signs and alerts the driver.

It is built on a robust Alliance platform (also used by the latest Mitsubishi Triton), lowering costs through having common parts and the modular architecture of Common Module Family. Much suspension tuning has been done in Australia in collaboration with Premcar, a vehicle engineering specialist.

The new model will go on sale in Australia and Oceania markets from the first quarter of 2026. It’s not known when it will be launched in Southeast Asia but it should eventually replace the current model.
