Jaguar Land Rover Malaysia introduces Defender V8

Two years ago, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) decided to rebrand its different product lines and make each a distinctive sub-brand. Its ‘House of Brands’ strategy saw four brands with familiar names being created: Jaguar, Range Rover, Defender and Discovery. This strategy removes ambiguity and brings more focus the unique DNA of each of JLR’s brands.

Jaguar Land Rover Malaysia (JLRM), a Sime Motors subsidiary, represents all four brands and has periodically introduced the latest models from each brand. The latest is the Defender V8 which offers modern performance technologies with the legendary off-road capability of Land Rovers.

Two versions
The new Defender V8 is available in two versions – the Defender 110 V8 and Defender 130 V8, priced (excluding duties) from RM998,000 and RM1.198 million, respectively.

Although both models have 5-litre V8 engines, the Defender 110’s is supercharged and produces 525 ps/625 Nm, while the 130’s engine delivers 500 ps/610 Nm. From the Quad outboard-mounted exhaust pipes come a signature exhaust note and soundtrack with the V8 ‘growl’ (and it is not an artificially-generated growl).

Versatile seating layout
However, the Defender V8 is more than just a high-performance SUV as it has a cabin with premium appointments. The versatile seats allow for variations in layout to suit different requirements, whether to carry more people (up to 8 persons) or more cargo.
