As reported earlier, the Audi Q7 will be assembled in Malaysia. Although Audi vehicles have been assembled locally since the 1970s, this is the first time that the Q7 SUV has been assembled here, as well as in the region. Production is underway at the Audi/Volkswagen facility in the HICOM Automotive Manufacturers (Malaysia) complex in Pekan, Pahang and the first public display will be at the 2025 Malaysia Auto Show next month.
The decision to localise production comes amid growing demand for luxury vehicles in Malaysia, driven by rising disposable incomes, urbanisation and a shift in consumer preferences toward premium mobility solutions.
Competitive pricing, faster delivery
“By assembling some of our top-of-the-line vehicles here, we can offer customers more competitive pricing and shorter delivery times,” said Denyu Bostandzhiev, Managing Director of PHS Automotive Malaysia, which manages the retail and aftersales activities for the Audi brand.
“With growing demand for D-segment SUVs, we believe that this is the right time to add the Q7 to our range of Audi models to serve customers here and in the region. The signature Q7 will lead the way for more Audi offerings in the premium luxury segment,” added Mr. Bostandzhiev.
3-litre TFSI + quattro
The premium 7-seater SUV, which will have an estimated price range from RM469,000 to RM489,000 (without insurance) comes with a 3-litre TFSI V6 MHEV (Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle) powertrain and Audi’s quattro permanent all-wheel drive system with an 8-speed Tiptronic transmission.
Four exterior colour choices are available – Glacier White, Waitomo Blue and Mythos Black are metallic options, and Daytona Grey with pearl effect.
More Audi models to be assembled
The plant in Pekan, which also assembles Volkswagen models, is expected to also roll out other Audi models in the future, at a capacity of 5,000 units per annum. An initial investment of over RM12 million has been committed towards realising this vision, altogether strengthening the brand’s presence in the premium luxury segment in Malaysia.
“This manufacturing plant and its transformation with a modernized and updated product portfolio is really a centre of excellence. Customers will continue to experience the same Audi quality, performance and luxury – now made in Malaysia,” said Dr Susanne Lehmann, Managing Director of Volkswagen Group Malaysia.
