Chery Malaysia is offering to loan cars to residents affected by the Putra Heights fire. The vehicle loan programme will provide 50 vehicles to assist families affected, offering temporary transportation to help them to go to work or send children to school.
Anyone who has suddenly lost the use of their car – usually because of an accident or theft – will appreciate this offer. Especially after an accident, there will be a need to go around to the police station, insurance company and workshop to sort things out and without a car, it can be a hassle travelling.
Chery’s loan of cars will help to ease this burden at least. Though it is only for a month, it will allow people to settle some urgent matters – even send their children to school – and hopefully, the insurance companies can process their claims quickly so they can get a replacement car.

Chery Corporate Malaysia will be working closely with the offices of Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, Selangor State Exco for Investment, Trade and Mobility Ng Sze Han, and the local authorities who are overseeing the relief efforts to coordinate the programme which will run for a period of time, allowing affected families time to arrange permanent transportation solutions.
Very commendable
This is certainly a very commendable move by Chery Malaysia and what is even more impressive is how fast the company made the decision – basically overnight… and on a holiday too. From what we know of their set-up, they have few layers so decisions can be made very quickly.
Perhaps other companies are also considering providing assistance but their process takes time, having to go up and down the management chain.
This is one company that is showing itself to be a good corporate citizen and will surely gain much goodwill for the brand from this initiative.
