All-new Kia K3 unveiled in Mexico

The all-new Kia K3 (also known as Forte and Cerato in some markets) today made its debut in Mexico where the new model is also being made. Since the first generation was launched in 2008 as a successor to the Spectra, the K3 has evolved to reach its fourth generation.

‘Opposites United’
For the latest generation, the Korean brand’s ‘Opposites United’ design philosophy has been adopted. This basically combines seemingly contradictory concepts such as technology and nature, and blends them in the K3 with advanced shapes, colours, and textures.

The result is a bold and futuristic appearance, characterized by its fastback-style silhouette, aggressive front end, sharp design cues, and a distinctive LED DRL lighting signature.

The ‘Tiger Nose’ still exists
While the EV models have their own frontal appearance, the K3’s front end still has the traditional ‘Tiger Nose’ grille. Introduced by Peter Schreyer 16 years ago, this has become a signature feature for the brand, evolving over the years and again reinterpreted for a more purposeful look on the K3.

On the sides, black applications in the wheelarches, along with a double-line beltline that grows from the fender, create a more robust appearance.

The fastback-style roof drop adds sophistication, while the clean rear design features a thin line of LED lighting as a decorative element that connects the taillights.

Aiming to redefine sub-compact segment
With the new K3, Kia aims to redefine the sub-compact segment and has designed with all the  essential characteristics to meet the demands of buyers in this sedan segment.

“With the all-new K3, we are delivering design features and sophistication unprecedented in this class,” said Sean Yoon, President & CEO of Kia North America. “The K3 is also proof of our commitment to offering mobility solutions perfectly designed to meet the needs of each market and is recognition of the enormous growth potential of the Mexican market.”

3 engine options
In Mexico, the K3 will be offered with a 1.6-litre 123 ps engine and, for the first time, a new GT-Line trim will be available which has a 2-litre 152 ps engine. 6-speed manual or automatic transmissions are available to choose from. Other markets will also have a 1.4-litre engine as an option.

The new GT-Line version offers a sportier and more aggressive appearance with a fascia featuring larger air intakes, 17-inch wheels, and dual exhaust outlets.

Functionality with comfort
Inside, the K3 offers a modern, pleasant, and comfortable ambience, with functionality and good connectivity too. Highlights include the integration of the instrument cluster and 10.25-inch infotainment screen into a single unit, a newly designed steering wheel inspired by the EV6, and a minimalist yet modern and functional dashboard with horizontal lines.

Much attention has been given to providing comfort levels comparable to those in vehicles of higher level. Vibrations and sound levels are said to be lower while the suspension system has been redesigned for balance between comfort and control.

Not likely to be in Malaysia
Deliveries of the new K3 will be available in selected markets starting from the fourth quarter of the year. Although it was available before during the Naza years, it is unlikely that the model will come to Malaysia,

It is not listed among the models for introduction over the next few years as Kia Malaysia and its distributor, Dinamikjaya Motors, will be focussing more on SUVs and EVs in the premium class.
