GoCar Mobility provides support for drivers affected by SOCAR’s closure

Following SOCAR’s announced departure from the Malaysian car-sharing market (effective August 31, 2026), GoCar Mobility has introduced a transition initiative for affected users.

RM200 mobility credits
The rival platform is offering up to RM200 in mobility credits to compensate drivers losing access to SOCAR’s fleet. Under the transitional arrangement, former SOCAR customers can claim up to RM20 off per booking across multiple reservations, capping at a cumulative RM200.

The offer aims to soften the operational shift for commuters who rely on on-demand vehicles rather than traditional auto ownership.

“We understand that many SOCAR users will still need access to a car, whether for daily errands, work, family trips or occasional journeys,” said Wong Hoe Mun, CEO of GoCar Mobility.

“Our aim is simply to make that transition easier. We welcome SOCAR users to GoCar and hope the offer allows them to experience our service and find a mobility option that works for them.”

The shift highlights the ongoing evolution within Malaysia’s short-term mobility sector. SOCAR’s exit closes an 8-year chapter in the local car-sharing ecosystem, during which both providers worked to build consumer awareness around vehicle access over full ownership.

GoCar services
GoCar continues its standard operations across major urban hubs, including the Klang Valley, Penang, and Johor Bahru, serving an estimated 40,000 active users annually. The company’s operational model combines its proprietary fleet — ranging from compact city cars and sedans to SUVs, MPVs, and electric vehicles — with a platform that allows private owners to list idle vehicles for rental.

“We believe there continues to be a place for car-sharing in Malaysia. Not everyone needs a car every day, and for some people, access can make more sense than ownership,” Mr. Wong noted, reinforcing the company’s intent to maintain its existing footprint and vehicle choices.

To claim the transition credit, eligible users must register with GoCar between August 19 and September 30, 2026, submitting a screenshot to verify their active SOCAR wallet balance to GoCar’s customer support. Verified promotional credits remain valid for bookings made up till December 31, 2026.
