GWM Malaysia partners with Malayan Xpedition for second consecutive year

GWM Malaysia has renewed its strategic partnership with Malayan Xpedition for a second year with the recent signing of a Memorandum of Understanding. As with last year’s collaboration, this year’s partnership aims to provide GWM TANK 300 and GWM TANK 500 owners with hands-on, real-world off-road driving experiences. They will get to participate in activities focusing on multi-day overland adventures that emphasize navigation, teamwork, and responsible off-roading.

For GWM TANK owners
For the 2026 collaboration, GWM Malaysia serves as the primary sponsor for Malayan Xpedition and will directly subsidise participation fees for eligible TANK 300 and TANK 500 owners.

The initiative forms part of the brand’s broader effort to engage its customer base through practical application rather than static showroom marketing. Roslan Abdullah, Chief Operating Officer of GWM Malaysia, noted that the platform allows owners to build familiarity and confidence with their vehicles’ mechanical and electronic terrain systems under controlled, guided conditions.

“At GWM Malaysia, we believe ownership should go beyond receiving the keys to a vehicle. We want to give our customers meaningful opportunities to experience, enjoy and build greater confidence in their vehicles,” he said. “Malayan Xpedition gives us the right platform to bring this belief to life. Instead of simply telling owners what their vehicles can do, we give them the opportunity to experience those capabilities for themselves.”

Demonstration of TANK’s capabilities
Complementing the customer activities, the brand recently demonstrated the capabilities of the tank in competitive motorsport at the Asia Cross Country Rally (AXCR) 2026 in Thailand. Using 2 production-based TANK 300 DIESEL SUVs, the GWM Ek Group Racing Team completed all 6 legs of the gruelling 2,000-km cross-country event.

The vehicles, which were entered in the FIA T2 category, finished in overall 12th and 15th positions out of the 43 vehicles that took part. According to Stan Li Hao, Managing Director of Commercial Operations at GWM Malaysia, the rally served as a rigorous validation exercise for the durability of GWM powertrains under extreme terrain and climate stress.
