71.4 kms/litre OMODA C9 PHEV launched in Malaysia

Quick look

  • Premium SUV with plug-in hybrid electric drivetrain for exceptional range and power.

  • Assembled in Malaysia, the C9 PHEV comes with an industry-leading 1,000,000 km engine warranty.

It’s been 6 months since we last saw the OMODA C9 PHEV and were told that it was ‘coming’. It was previewed along with the JAECOO J5 which has already been launched, and now the C9 finally makes its official market entry.

This new flagship SUV is the most powerful model yet from the OMODA | JAECOO stable and is priced from RM208,800, but if you book one before April 30, 2026, you can get it for RM3,000 less as there is a Duit Raya rebate as part of the launch package which includes a V2L (vehicle-to-load) cable for charging external equipment.

While the C9 PHEV is assembled locally in Selangor, OMODA | JAECOO Malaysia has a limited number of CBU (completely built-up) units available for sale as well. These come with a year of complimentary insurance coverage (the retail price of the locally-assembled model excludes insurance).

Super Hybrid System
The C9 PHEV has a Tri-Motor Plug-in Hybrid powertrain which is at the heart of the Super Hybrid System. Working with the electric motors is a 1.5-litre turbocharged direct-injection 4-cylinder engine which produces 105 kW and 215 Nm of torque, achieving a thermal efficiency of 44.5%. It employs Deep Miller Cycle combustion and an intelligent thermal management system to ensure that energy loss through heat and friction is kept to a minimum during operation.

The sophisticated 3-motor arrangement has 2 electric motors situated on the front axle, providing a combined 165 kW/390 Nm. When the driver requires maximum grip or rapid acceleration, a third electric motor on the rear axle is engaged. This unit develops 175 kW/310 Nm, effectively turning the C9 into an all-wheel drive vehicle. With all power sources operating, the drivetrain can generate an impressive total output of up to 395 kW/650 Nm. This gives a 0 to 100 km/h capability of 4.9 seconds, quick for a SUV.

The electrified drivetrain works together with the petrol engine through a 3-speed Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT). Unlike simpler hybrid setups, this 3-speed DHT allows for more precise torque multiplication and better efficiency across various speed ranges.

Electric power is provided by a 34.46 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery which can be recharged from 30% to 80% within a claimed 25 minutes when using a DC fast-charger with a supply of 70 kW. AC charging can be done up to 6.6 kW, taking around 5.5 hours to fill from 30% to 100%.

71.4 kms/litre!
Depending on the battery level and driving conditions, it is possible to travel up to 169 kms on just electric power. Due to the electric motors also doing part of the work of moving the SUV, a lot of fuel can be saved and there will be times when the engine is not running or used minimally. This allows the consumption to drop to as low as 71.4 kms a litre (that’s not a typo) and with the 65-litre tank, that means a driving range which can be around 1,100 kms with a full tank.

In spite of such long ranges, companies have tried to push the envelope further by asking the media to participate in organised runs. In all cases. Ranges of over 1,000 kms have been easily achieved. The driver can manage this super efficiency through 6 selectable drive modes and 3 levels of regenerative braking.

1 million km engine warranty
The engine is covered by an extended 10-year or 1,000,000 km warranty, while key electric vehicle components — battery, electric motors and power electronics — are protected by a 10-year or 200,000 km warranty.

Sophisticated suspension system
The chassis features a Continuous Damping Control active suspension system with sophisticated technology that monitors the road surface and can adjust damping forces up to 100 times per second. Being able to vary the damping forces in almost real-time means ride quality can be kept at its best. If the driver prefers a certain ride quality, it is also possible to manually select between Soft, Medium, or Hard settings.

The exterior design follows the same coupe-SUV silhouette as the C9 that was introduced at the end of 2024. The bodywork is made with 85% high-strength steel, giving very good structural integrity that will be helpful in collisions. In fact, after being crashed by Euro NCAP, the C9 PHEV was rated the full 5 stars.

SUV functionality in digital age
Within, the spacious cabin with premium materials has the ambience of the digital age with elements of SUV functionality. A pair of 12.3-inch displays serve as the digital instrument cluster and the primary infotainment interface. The system supports Android Auto and features an intelligent voice command system initiated by the phrase ‘Hello OMODA’, allowing for hands-free control of various vehicle settings.

The audio experience is delivered through a Sony premium sound system. Two of the 14 speakers are integrated into the driver’s headrest to provide clear, localized audio for route guidance and phone calls without interrupting the music for other passengers. The C9 PHEV also comes with a standard Head-Up Display, allowing the driver to stay informed of important information while keeping the eyes ahead.

The cabin environment is enhanced with a built-in fragrance system and a panoramic sunroof equipped with a powered sunshade. For utility, the boot has 660 litres of space with the rear seats in use, expandable to 1,783 litres when both the backrests are folded down.

Driver-assist systems
A Level 2.5 Advanced Driver Assistance System suite includes essential functions such as Autonomous Emergency Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Lane Departure Prevention. A 540-degree HD Surround View camera system provides a clear view of not only the area around the vehicle but also under it (that’s where the other 180 degrees coverage is). This helps the driver to spot obstacles on the ground that could damage the vehicle.

Owners can also utilize the CarLinko mobile application, which connects to the vehicle via a TBox system. This allows for remote monitoring of the vehicle’s status, control of certain functions, and management of the smart charging features. It represents the final layer of a highly technical package designed to bring electrified performance to the premium SUV segment in Malaysia. 2026 OMODA C9 PHEV
