Most owners of premium SUVs don’t go far off the highway although their vehicles are quite capable of handling rough terrain and deep water crossings. However, there are also those who buy SUVs not just for daily transport but also for work, visiting construction sites or farms. Such owners will find that the JAECOO J8 is an ideal dual-purpose vehicle that also looks good at the club.
Put through a series of tough obstacles at the Sepang Bay 13 Off-Road Ranch near the PETRONAS Sepang International Circuit, the J8 demonstrated how its advanced chassis and suspension technologies can get the vehicle over challenging terrain like rocks, side slopes, steep slopes and uneven ground.
One of the technologies is the Dynamic Torque Vectoring system with two clutches which enhances the capabilities of the ARDIS (All Road Drive Intelligent System) system, distributing torque to all wheels for maximum traction on all surfaces, even uneven ones. The torque vectoring system constantly monitors grip levels on each wheel, and intelligently distribute torque dynamically to each wheel within milliseconds.
Torque distribution to left and right wheels of the rear axle can vary from 0% to 100%. If 3 wheels have no grip, the system can concentrate all available power on the remaining wheel on the rear axle, reducing the chances of being stuck.
Besides the superior traction capabilities, the J8 also provides occupants with a smooth ride, even if the ground underneath is rough. Thanks to the Continuous Damping Control (CDC) adaptive suspension, the shock absorbers stiffness is constantly adjusted in real-time, adapting to surface conditions to optimize ride comfort and handling.
