With three all-new models launched this year (including one under the smart brand), it has been a very hectic time for Proton. The hard work has paid off with a steady growth in sales that see the cumulative volume for 11 months having exceeded that of the whole of 2022.
For the month of November 2023, the Malaysian carmaker reports that it delivered 12,296 vehicles (domestic + export), which takes the cumulative volume for the year to 141,900 units (of which 3,024 units were exported).
Following the launch of its latest model – the S70 Sedan – on November 28, an increasing number of orders has been received as more Malaysians experience the car and are impressed by it. Over 900 orders per week are now being received and the total bookings collected by dealers nationwide has exceeded 3,000 units.
X Series SUVs remain popular
The X50, X70, and X90 models – referred to as the X Series – remain popular as they are SUVs, a segment which has been the hottest for many years now. To date, 201,710 units of the series are on the roads around Malaysia, with the highest number being the X50. Since launch, a total of 102,325 units have been sold, or half of all Proton SUVs.
The X90, flagship of the Proton range, was launched this year and has become the leader in the SUV D-segment. In just the short time it has been in the market, 4,285 units have been delivered.
High demand for the ‘PIES models’
Proton’s legacy models – the Saga, Iriz, Persona, Exora – are referred to as the ‘PIES models’ and in spite of their age, they are still in demand. Their popularity is largely to do with being models that have stood the test of time. Furthermore, over the years, Proton has enhanced the specifications so they have become good value for money.
Reflecting on the continuing success in the market, Roslan Abdullah, CEO of Proton Edar, said: “November has shaped up well for us, and we’re poised for a strong year-end close. Our model line-up has been a key player, perfectly aligning with preferences for style, performance, technology, and practicality.”
“The ongoing improvements in our aftersales services have strengthened customer confidence, ensuring a smooth ownership journey. We’re confident in delivering a strong finish this year, getting as many cars as possible to our customers before the year concludes.”
